Will my daily dose of aspirin conflict with Tylenol Sinus and Allergy medication?
Tylenol Sinus and Allergy would only interact with aspirin if you are taking unusually high doses of either one.
Can you take extra strength aspirin while taking 81mg aspirin?
There is no reason to take both the low dose (81mg) and the larger strengths of aspirin, together or in the same day. The amount of aspirin needed for heart health is actually about 75mg per day. Low dose aspirin in the USA contains 81mg. There are other strengths available for aspirin from 250mg up to even 800mg per tablet. If you have to take the larger doses for some unrelated reason to heart health, save your money and hold back the 81mg. Keep in mind that the more aspirin that is taken, the more likely the chance of stomach or GI side effects, including bleeding. If you have liver or kidney disease, please speak to your doctor before taking any aspirin product, especially the higher doses.
I take aspirin 81mg. Would it be contraindicated to oral Metathione once a day?
I think you are referring to a skin lightening supplement called Metathione. Metathione is a brand name for a multi-ingredient, amino acid/vitamin skin lightener. The only interaction with aspirin, a salicylate drug, would be with the vitamin c (ascorbic acid).
Is it OK to take Lopressor and Esidrix and low-dose aspirin at the same time?
Although an interaction is possible, these drugs may be used together. Lopressor (metoprolol) and Esidrix (hydrochlorothiazide) are drugs used to treat high blood pressure. If the blood pressure drops too low while taking these medications, you may become dizzy or feel faint.
Long-term use of aspirin may decrease the ability of the diuretic to control your blood pressure, especially in older patients.
I've been taking the NSAID Clinoril (Sulindac) for years for my arthritis. I'm almost 59. Would there be any cardiac benefit for me to add low dose aspirin to my medicine regimen?
Generally, do not take aspirin with NSAIDs without first talking to your prescriber. In some cases, this might be a duplicate therapy. In other cases, your prescriber may decide that using these drugs together is beneficial to you, but you should never make that decision for yourself. NSAIDs do not have the same cardiac benefit as aspirin.
Some physician may allow patients to take a low dose aspirin with NSAID therapy. If that is the case, take the NSAID either 8 hours before or 30 minutes after aspirin if concurrent therapy is needed. Always use the enteric coated aspirin and take both the aspirin and NSAID with food or milk.
What Tylenol, aspirin or Bayer product contains Dramamine and promethazine?
Tylenol (acetaminophen) and aspirin are each mixed with many different products but neither are combined with promethazine (Phenergan) or either formulation of Dramamine (dimenhydrinate or meclizine).
Can I take aspirin and high blood pressure medicine (ramipril) together, in the morning?
Although an interaction is possible, aspirin and ACE inhibitors like ramipril (Accupril) are often used together. Long-term use of aspirin may decrease the ability of antihypertensives, such as ACE inhibitors, to control your blood pressure, especially in older patients. If you take aspirin and ACE inhibitors together for long periods, monitor your blood pressure to make sure it is well-controlled. I would also recommend taking the enteric coated aspirin to prevent stomach irritation.
I am allergic to aspirin. Can I take cyclobenzaprine? I suffer from severe headaches.
There is no aspirin in cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril), so having an aspirin allergy would not keep you from taking cyclobenzaprine . . . but it is a muscle relaxant, not a pain reliever. If you must be alert, be careful when first taking cyclobenzaprine, as it can cause drowsiness. There are several medications available for headaches. Talk to your doctor.
Can I take 10mg aspirin a day while taking Citalopram?
Yes. There are no direct drug interactions between aspirin and citalopram (Celexa). They may be taken together. I am not sure where you are getting 10mg strength aspirin as the smallest available (of which I am aware) is 81mg. No matter what strength aspirin you take, unless it is for an emergency and you require immediate action, use the enteric-coated types to help protect the stomach lining.
Can lisinopril/hctz taken with aspirin 81mg cause tightness of upper back muscles and shortness of breath?
The only possible drug interaction between lisinopril/hctz (Prinzide or Zestoretic) and aspirin would be an increase in blood pressure, or a decrease in the effectiveness of these blood pressure drugs. The symptoms that you describe are inconsistent with uncontrolled blood pressure. I would question if you are allergic to the aspirin. Contact your doctor if these symptoms continue.
Can I take low-dose aspirin when I'm taking allopurinol?
Yes. They may be taken together. Take your aspirin with food or milk. Drink plenty of water while taking allopurinol. Your physician should have given you a diet to follow, or at least a list of foods to avoid.
Can you take aspirin with Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine)?
Yes. They may be taken together if needed. Flexeril may cause drowsiness, so take care if you must be alert.
Is there aspirin in Allegra?
There is no aspirin in Allegra (fexofenadine). If you are allergic to aspirin, you should not have to avoid Allegra.
Can I take aspirin while on fludeten?
Fludeten, unavailable in the United States, is acetaminophen with codeine -- like Tylenol #3. There are no drug interactions between aspirin, codeine and acetaminophen. Limit acetaminophen to no more than 3000mg per 24 hours. Codeine can cause drowsiness.
Is it safe to take carvedilol (Coreg) 12.5mg bid and metformin (Glucophage) 500mg bid with aspirin 81mg?
There can be a drug interaction between the carvedilol and metformin. Concurrent use of antidiabetic drugs (like metformin) and beta blockers (like carvedilol) may result in hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia, or hypertension. Coreg is a mixed alpha/beta blocker, so the likelihood of this occurring is less than with a pure beta blocker. Did the same physician prescribe both of these medications? If not, contact the prescribers and be certain they have your current medication list. Aspirin may be taken with either. I recommend enteric-coated aspirin.
Can I take Sudafed PE if I am allergic to aspirin and NSAIDs?
Yes. There are no aspirin, salicylate or NSAID components in Sudafed PE (phenylephrine). If you have high blood pressure or heart problems, talk to your physician before taking Sudafed; it can raise blood pressure.
If I take a low-dose aspirin daily, what should I take when I get a fever?
Low-dose aspirin (81mg) is taken once daily, either in the morning or at bedtime. For fever, headaches or pain throughout the day both Tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin) would be safe and effective. If you have stomach problems, I would suggest Tylenol. Limit Tylenol to 3000mg per 24 hours. I also suggest using enteric-coated low-dose aspirin to protect the stomach.
If I am allergic to aspirin, can I take Flexeril?
There is no aspirin or salicylate in Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine). There is no cross sensitivity to the Flexeril. You may use this muscle relaxant if it is prescribed for you.
Are there any drug reactions between azithromycin and aspirin?
There are no direct drug interactions between any aspirin and azithromycin (Zithromax). Take azithromycin each morning until finished. To protect the stomach, use enteric-coated aspirin or take with food.
I take fluoxetine antidepressants and I have to take 75mg aspirin every day. Can I still take either tramadol or dihydrocodeine for my pain while taking these other medicines?
There can be a couple of issues with this group of medications. Taking fluoxetine (Prozac) and tramadol (Ultram) together can result in an increased risk of seizures and serotonin syndrome (hypertension, hyperthermia, myoclonus, mental status changes). Taking fluoxetine at the same time as aspirin can increase your risk of bleeding. Dihydrocodeine is a narcotic analgesic that will slow you down and make you drowsy. Fluoxetine has a side effect that affects the electrical conduction of the heart muscle. It can cause a prolonged QT interval. In some people this may be quite a problem. Contact your physician as soon as possible. Make sure that all your health care providers are aware of your list of medications.
I recently had hip replacement surgery and the surgeon said to take aspirin, Tylenol and Advil together. The aspirin is for a blood thinner after surgery, and the Advil and Tylenol are for pain and inflammation. Is it OK to take these at the same time?
Aspirin and Advil (ibuprofen) both attach to the same binding site. I would take the aspirin (enteric-coated) early each morning or right before bed. You may take Tylenol (acetaminophen) with either of the others. Take Advil up to four times daily with food or milk, but not at the same time as the aspirin. Limit Tylenol to 3000mg per 24 hours. That is 6 Extra-Strength Tylenol per day limit. Tylenol will not relieve inflammation, only stop pain.
Is it OK to take 81 mg chewable aspirin with 300 mg allopurinol and 20-12.5 lisinopril/HCTZ?
A possible interaction between aspirin, allopurinol (Zyloprim) and lisinopril/HCTZ ( Prinzide/Zestoretic) is a slight chance the aspirin may lower the effectiveness of the lisinopril. The small amount of aspirin you take each day would most likely not cause any issues. Consider taking an enteric-coated 81mg aspirin to protect your stomach. Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol while taking allopurinol.
I've read about the health benefits of taking baby aspirin every day. I'm 27. . . is that too young to start?
Excellent question: how early is too early? The BJC Pharmacy Operations Council suggests that a person who scores a 10 percent risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) within 10 years, based on the Framingham Study (go to the women's study or go to the men's study ), who has no condition precluding the use of aspirin, be taking an 81mg enteric-coated aspirin every day. There are other risk factors -- such as diabetes or close family history of CHD -- that would be additional reasons to take aspirin, even if the Framingham risk calculation is less than 10 percent. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about your risk factors. Heart disease can start at an early age. It is never too early to talk to your health care professional about prevention.
Will taking an aspirin a day help raise your good cholesterol (HDL)?
No. Aspirin has no effect on cholesterol, triglycerides or any other fat cells in the blood. Its only effect is on red blood cells. There is a prescription product made that includes a statin drug for cholesterol with aspirin for circulation. It is called Pravigard Pac. Talk to your cardiologist or a dietitian about how to increase your HDL.
Can I take a baby aspirin and 1 gram of Omega-3 supplement daily without side effects?
Yes. They may be taken together. I always recommend using enteric-coated aspirin.
Can you take 81mg aspirin with Prednisone?
Some doctors do not recommend taking aspirin when you have breathing problems, so talk with your prescribing physician. If you are given the OK to take aspirin, I suggest enteric-coated aspirin, since both of these drugs could irritate the stomach. Take the aspirin at bedtime and the prednisone in the morning with food. Make sure all your health care providers have a list of your medications and chronic conditions.
How much does aspirin weigh?
If you are asking what strengths are available, you can get aspirin in the United States in 81mg, 325mg and 650mg tablets. You can also get aspirin in suppository form in 300mg and 600mg sizes.
Is there aspirin in Flexeril?
No. Flexeril is a muscle relaxant with cyclobenzaprine as the active ingredient. There is no aspirin or any other pain reliever in it. Normally, Flexeril is used in combination with pain relievers such as aspirin, acetaminophen or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Can I take aspirin while taking NyQuil Nightime . . . and is it OK to also take two melatonin at bedtime?
Yes. If you are taking aspirin for your heart, take it with breakfast. NyQuil has quite a bit of alcohol and an antihistamine. This will make you drowsy. Melatonin is for sleep, particularly due to jet lag. Make sure you can devote at least 8 hours for sleep.
Do guaifenesin and dextromethorphan contain aspirin?
No. Neither product has any aspirin or salicylate product. You may take these two medications if you are allergic to aspirin or have GI problems. Drink plenty of water with each and only take as needed. If you are allergic to aspirin or anything else, be sure your physicians and pharmacists know.
I take one enteric-coated aspirin a day, but now I am on a 10-day Prednisone dosage. Can I take them together?
To help your stomach and prevent irritation, take the aspirin with your evening meal while you are taking the steroid. Take the prednisone with food in the morning.
I've heard people talk about low-dose aspirin and baby aspirin as if they were the same. They're different, right?
Low-dose aspirin is the correct name for the old "baby" aspirin. You should never give aspirin to children. The dose is 81mg and this comes in enteric-coated, swallow and chewable forms. They mean the same thing.
Is it OK to take a low-dose asprin with metformin and Synthroid?
Yes. You may take aspirin the same day as metformin (Glucophage) and Synthroid (levothyroxine). I recommend enteric-coated aspirin. Take Synthroid by itself 30 minutes before breakfast. Take aspirin with food.
Why can't those who are allergic to aspirin take Advil?
Advil (ibuprofen) and most NSAIDs act on the same receptor sites as aspirin. Those allergic to aspirin should avoid any NSAID. Take Tylenol (acetaminophen) and alert all of your doctors and pharmacies that you have the aspirin allergy.
Can I take aspirin while taking melatonin?
Tonin is classified as a hormone product. It is normally considered an alternative type of medication. Aspirin is a pain-reliever, fever-reducer, anti-inflammatory and blood-thinner drug. There is no literature I could find indicating any interactions between melatonin and aspirin. Aspirin can upset the stomach and cause bleeding. Let all of your doctors and pharmacists know you are taking these drugs.
Can L-Arginine and low-dose aspirin be taken together safely?
Yes. L-Arginine may be taken with aspirin. I recommend enteric-coated aspirin, and take it in the morning.
My husband is allergic to aspirin. Does Mucinex contain aspirin?
There is no aspirin in Mucinex. Make sure your husband drinks plenty of water with the Mucinex (guaifenesin).
If I am allergic to aspirin, could I also be allergic to codeine?
You may be allergic to many drugs, but not because you are also allergic to aspirin.
Can I take two 81mg aspirin?
Yes, as long as you do not have any bleeding disorders, are not allergic to aspirin or have ulcers. If you do, split the dose -- morning and evening with meals. Always use the enteric-coated type. Inform all of your physicians of what you are taking with the doses.
