In the Weight Watchers Momentum Program, you'll find a sustainable plan . . . a plan that doesn’t leave you hungry or deprived . . . a plan that is healthy. You'll learn about filling foods -- satisfying and delicious choices you can rely on to help keep hunger in check and get more value out of what you eat. Focusing on these foods can make a dramatic difference in your feelings of satisfaction and your ability to fight pesky temptation when it strikes.

Every food is assigned a points value based on its calories, fat and fiber. In the Weight Watchers Momentum Program, you will use this points system to help you keep track of what you eat. You stay within a daily points budget that is personalized just for you.

Logo - Weight WatchersThe time-tested Weight Watchers approach is an integrated program emphasizing good eating choices, healthy habits, a supportive environment and exercise. You eat what you like -- with an emphasis on nutrition -- using flexible food plans that can adapt to any lifestyle or unique needs -- and get advice on staying satisfied by choosing the foods you enjoy. This sensible plan helps you lose weight at a healthy rate while you're getting the knowledge and information you need to keep excess weight off for good.

With the Weight Watchers Momentum Program, you can learn:

  • To make smarter eating choices and stay satisfied longer with filling foods
  • The benefits of tracking what you eat and drink to learn portion sizes and be in better control
  • To avoid emotional eating by listening to your body’s hunger signals and deciding if you’re really hungry
  • About the flexibility of the Weight Watchers points system

The Weight Watchers Momentum Program:

  • Combines the latest in scientific research with successful aspects of previous Weight Watchers food plans
  • Teaches a more satisfying way of eating by guiding people toward healthy foods that help them feel satisfied longer so that they can achieve greater weight-loss success
  • Has only one food plan, which is based on a points system and incorporates filling foods
  • Provides strategies to avoid obstacles that can get in the way of weight-loss success, such as identifying hunger issues and determining if hunger triggers are emotional or physical
  • Offers tools and approaches for tracking/journaling; tracking what you eat is scientifically proven to be an effective tool to help weight loss; research shows that people tend to underestimate how much they eat, and tracking builds awareness, which helps reduce mindless eating
  • Helps members learn to use their bodies’ signals to recognize satisfaction so that they know when to stop eating

Filling foods are:

  • Scientifically proven to help keep one feeling satisfied longer and are a central component of the Weight Watchers Momentum Program
  • Low in calories, but contain more water, air or fiber per serving, relative to the food’s weight -- so they’re low in energy density; many are also high in protein
  • Encouraged in the Weight Watchers Momentum Program to keep hunger at bay
  • Whole wheat pasta, brown rice, potatoes and grains
  • Vegetables and fruits
  • Whole-grain cereals -- without added sugar, nuts or dried fruit
  • Lean meats, poultry, fish, eggs, beans and meat substitutes such as tofu
  • Fat-free milk and milk products
  • Soups made with filling foods

People who attend Weight Watchers meetings lose three times more weight than those who try to do it on their own. Regular meeting attendance with Weight Watchers was significantly correlated with both weight loss and weight-loss maintenance. Weight Watchers members focusing on either low-energy density or portion control both show comparable significant decreases in caloric intake along with significant improvements in body mass index and waist circumference.

Since 2004, BJC HealthCare employees have lost 8,617 pounds.

WW in BJC Cafeterias

Weight Watchers and Morrison, BJC HealthCare's food service provider, teamed up in December for a 90-day trial of Weight Watchers menu items in four BJC cafeterias: Cafe 4444, St. Louis Children's Hospital, Christian Hospital and Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital.

Examples of some menu items are frosted banana bread muffin, pecan-crusted fish, corn pudding, peach crisp, chicken and sausage gumbo, carrots with cumin, marinated vegetable salad and hot brown in the entree salad/sandwich category.

This exclusive Weight Watchers menu was rolled out nationwide by Morrison at 25 of the company's accounts. Recipes are based on current published Weight Watchers recipes. The initial rollout included about 70 recipes rotating on a two-week Monday through Friday schedule. Each menu item is identified by its point value for those following the Weight Watchers program.
